Tees Barrage Water Centre

Client / Location Tees Barrage International Water Centre, Stockton-on-Tees, UK
Year 1995

Tees Barrage International White Water Course is an artificial white-water course on the north bank of the River Tees, in northern England. The course was built in 1995 at a cost of £2m, and is home to two international-standard courses, 300m of rapid white water, and the steepest drop in the UK. The facility also offers kayaking, white-water slalom, playboating, white-water rafting and surfing on the 'surf wave'.

Designed to soar over the nearby waterside, this canopy structure is stunning in its simplicity, providing cover over an otherwise open area and stairwell. The supporting structure makes use of laser-cut sections to provide architecturally attractive details. The roof fabric is of type-2 structure grade.
