A 3,500-seat permanent membrane structure with snow loading capacity of 400t. The structure dimensions of 55m x 80m allowed large internal heights to accommodate the stage and seating. The brief was to create a structure that was a ‘black box’ inside - i.e., visitors were not supposed to feel like they were in tent, but a theatre. This was fantastic for the live experience.
But not so good for recording film with the technology which was used at the time by a theatre-goer (see video below and try to watch with volume down!).
When built it was the biggest stage in Turkey and carried the title of being the second largest show centre in Europe.
Anadolu Gösteri ve Kongre Merkezi (Anatolian Show & Convention Centre) has hosted many different types of events since it opened, including Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson in 2011 and contemporary Turkish folkloric band, Kardeş Türküler.
